For some countries, such as Singapore, Dubai, or South Africa, it will be cheaper for you to find a local specialist freight company, familiar with import documentation, who will pick up from here and deliver to you, or to an airport freight centre. We can email you the size and weight of your parcel.

If the invoice and delivery address are outside the EU, you don't pay UK VAT, so the prices, except for the delivery charge, will be 20.0% less.

Usually, the very popular Paragon SC series kilns are in stock, ready for delivery to your nominated address. All the larger kilns are made to order, take about 15 working days to build, about four working days to ship, and will arrive here in a box, in a crate, or on a palette, ready for delivery to you.

Paragon in the US makes around 400 different models, many of which are available in five colours or have modifications, so doesn't have a warehouse full of ready-to-ship kilns. Although Cherry Heaven is an EU distributor and service centre, it's not feasible to showcase the extensive range, especially as most kilns are protectively boxed, crated, or paletted for local or international delivery.

Kiln Furniture Kits.

Smaller kilns have a recommended professional furniture kit, usually an appropriate heavy-duty shelf with four separate posts, included in the price so that you can start work straight away.
It's not an expensive collection that I've put together for you: one that you have to pay for but might never use. And it's not a flimsy shelf that will soon need replacing. However, extra shelf kits allow you to stack your work, optimising your use of the firing chamber volume, and your time.

Electrical Requirements.

Paragon kilns, made in the US, have been re-engineered to work on single-phase 230V-240V mains supply. They can also be built for 200V, 208V, 220V, 3-phase 208V, 3-phase 220V, 3-phase 240V, or 3-phase 480V.

Plug-in kilns, such as the Paragon SC-2, come with a standard UK 3-pin plug. If you're in the EU, but not the UK, ask for a free UK to EU adapter. If you're outside the EU, use a local adapter or change the plug.

UK voltage used to be 240V and European used to be 220V. The EU decided to harmonise the voltage to 230V, but the implementation costs were too high for almost no real benefit. So, to appear harmonised, the nominal voltage was changed to 230V, but within the range 216V-253V. Generally, in the UK, 240V is a reliable average.

General Safety.

It'll be too late to think about safety practices after an accident. Apart from kiln accessories, the on-line shop includes heat-resistant ceramic blocks and cloths, digital reminder-timers, fire extinguishers, heat-resistant gloves, glare-resistant glasses, and clear protective glasses.

All particulates represent a health risk if they're breathed in, so it's very important to wear a HEPA mask when mixing powders, handling charcoal, sanding dried metal-clays, and cleaning out your kiln. Ideally, use protective glasses.

It's important to have your fire extinguisher near your kiln. Read the instructions as soon as you unpack it, learn how to treat burns, buy a basic first aid kit, and fit a smoke alarm.

For private home use, check your building and contents insurance for relevant exclusions. For business use, you might need public liability insurance and will have to comply with health and safety regulations.

Businesses and course providers might have to get change-of-use planning consent for proposed building changes and provide staff training, safety glasses, fire extinguishers, first-aid materials, disabled access, a bathroom, and fire exits.

EU Safety.

The heating elements are either safely embedded in ceramic fibre, or lie in grooves in the lid or sides. US-made kilns often have live heating elements that are exposed whenever the door or lid is open so, to comply with EU safety regulations, an additional switch, included in the price, is fitted to cut off the power whenever the kiln is opened. Exposed live elements are very dangerous, and illegal in the UK.

Paragon kilns conform to the demanding UL 499 standard in the US and are CE Marked for the EU. Paragon is Greek for Model Of Perfection.

Guarantees.

All new kilns, tumblers, and polishers are guaranteed for 12 months, and user-fitted spare parts for 90 days. In the very unlikely event of a fault, find your invoice or other proof of purchase and call: even if you bought the kiln from a reseller.

It's vital to provide a clear delivery address and an appropriate telephone number, and be there to receive your delivery. If you're not there, the delivery will eventually be returned to us and there'll be a second delivery charge.

Delivery drivers are not allowed to lift very heavy goods on their own, and are not insured to carry things through your property. They do what is technically called a kerbside drop although, if they have a palette trolley, will usually do their best to move it somewhere convenient. So make sure that enough able people are available to help, especially if you live in a flat or a building with restricted access.

Deliveries have to be signed for. It's your responsibility to check the contents before you sign, so be prepared to open a box, take the lid off a crate, or undo a palette. If you have any doubts, sign and say unexamined or damaged. If there has been any freight damage you need to document it and take photos. It will not be possible to make a freight-damage claim if you sign saying that's it's all ok, or leave it lying around unchecked for 3-4 days.
